Pins: Universal Fit

A colleague was recently looking at the pieces I had for sale, trying to figure out what to buy for her daughter's teacher, when she realized that she did not know whether the teacher had pierced ears, let alone, whether she even wore jewelry, since she always saw the teacher in the school setting.   All she knew was that the teacher's favorite color was purple.  She asked if I could make the teacher a pin - of course!

A pin is a great solution - whether the person you are buying for would wear one to go with other jewelry or to add a punctuation mark to an outfit, it is truly "one size."  In our Mid-Atlantic climate, which is hot and humid outside in the summer - and freezing inside (air conditioning), they can be super practical, anchoring the essential (and ever present) pashmina or scarf round your shoulders.

I have made different kinds of pins - from scratch, using my beloved freeform wire shapes -- and by wire-wrapping kilt pins.  Both provide a great foundation for embellishment.

Freeform:  Gold-colored craft wire with abalone shell beads, freshwater pearls, and glass beads.

Freeform:  Silver-plated wire with freshwater pearls, citrine and opals

Kilt Pins:  Assorted Crystals

Kilt Pin:  Pearl Beads and Glass Chips

Teacher's Choice:  All Purple (Go Ravens!)
